Camel festival

One of our most popular festivals in winter is  two-humped Thousand  Bactrian Camel Festival.  This festival has been organized every year since 1997 in the Gobi Desert.

Aim of this festival is to draw people’s attention to camels for  protecting and breeding camels continuously in the future and the best management of increasing living values of camel.

This festival takes place in March 6 and 7 for 2 days in Bulgan soum  in South-Gobi province. 

The main events are:

  • Festival Opening Ceremony
  • Parade of camel riders
  • Camel Polo
  • Best looking couple on a beautiful couple camel back  and etc.,

DETAILED ITINERARY - DAY BY DAY

Day 1 South Gobi

05 Mar: Travel to Dalanzadgad town: Pick up at your accommodation and travel to Dalanzadgad town for 560kms about 7-8hours. Lunch at Mandalgobi town.

Then continue drive to Dalanzadgad. Sightseeing around area town. Stay overnight in Local hotel. LD

Day 2  Camel Festival Days 

06 Mar Day : Morning travel to Bulgan town for 100kms about 2hours. Enjoy Camel Festival in the Gobi! This event will be organized by “Tumen Temee” (“Ten Thousand Camels”) – association in order to protect two humped Bactrian camels and reproduce camel herders, to increase their productivity, to increase herder’s income by tourism. In those days we will “breathe” by camels. You will enjoy authentic festival program including, camels racing, children’s concert, camel wool product exhibition, camel polo, parade on camels and nice couple competition. Stay overnight in Local Guest house. BLD

Day 3 Camel Festival Day

07 Mar: Today you will enjoy relay competition with camel. An entertaining competition which shows camel training methods and customs of “Heroes of great Gobi” people, overcomes severe climate and harsh condition of Gobi by their effort and endurance. Teams each having 5 members participate in it and show many methods and techniques of catching camel with lasso, tying and bringing down, putting wooden peg into camel’s nose and loading camel. Stay overnights in Local Guest house. BLD

 

Day 4 Travel to UB

On the way we will see Bayanzag. Here you will see saksaul forest in the Gobi desert and red flaming cliffs, which formed by the erosion of the sand and rock over many thousands of years. This is the place where dinosaurs were lived 70 million years ago, and is internationally famous for its dinosaur remains of complete skeletons, eggs and hatchlings of the Cretaceous Period. Continue drive to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to your accommodation. End of the service. BL
